SUMMARY: The Controller is responsible for safeguarding the school's monetary assets, and the planning, control, record keeping, and reporting of all financial activities. This position is directly responsible for maintaining accounting records including the general ledger, accounts receivable, cash receipts, invoicing parents, payroll preparation, tax reporting, overseeing the annual audit, preparation of the school's tax returns as well as indirect responsibility for accounts payable and purchasing. The Controller is the lead interface with parents in dealing with their financial matters at The Fay School and is expected to work closely and effectively with the Leadership and Advancement Teams. The Controller reports directly to the Director of Finance and Operations, is a 12-month full-time position and serves as a member of the Advancement Team.
Maintains complete accounting records.
Maintains accounts receivable system including subsidiary ledger accounts, receipt of payments, deposits to bank, individual parent billing records, and invoicing.
Prepares bi-monthly payroll, tracks payroll tax filing, tax reports, and records proper entries in general ledger.
Maintains asset inventory records.
Oversees annual audit, including preparation of audit schedules, coordination and reconciliation with other departments and interfaces with audit firm.
Prepares annual 990 and 5500 tax returns.
Stays abreast of accounting pronouncements, best practice and industry trends and foster initiatives to improve business operations.
Devises and implements policy in conjunction with Leadership.
Reports directly to the Director of Finance and Operations, coordinates and works closely with the Business Office Team, the Director of Advancement, and Director of Admissions.
Participates in the life of The Fay School by attending various events throughout the

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years’ experience not-for-profit accounting preferred.
CPA certification preferred.
Experience with the following systems preferred: QuickBooks, ADP Payroll, Filemaker, Office 365, Teams, Word and Excel.
Knowledge and experience in accounts receivable, payroll, accounts payable, general ledger, financial statements, and fund accounting.
Ability to produce detailed accurate work, coherent reconciliations and financial reports in a timely manner.
Ability to maintain orderly comprehensive records.
