Congressional School seeks a Summer Nurse to work full-time for approximately two months from mid-June to mid-August. The Nurse works with school and camp administration to provide a healthy and safe environment for all students, campers, and staff. The Nurse administers primary care nursing to ill and injured students in addition to providing assessment, examination, referral and follow-up according to policies and procedures. The Nurse will also administer medications as prescribed, provide first aid as necessary, and document care according to school policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide nursing care to ill or injured students, campers, and faculty/staff during the school/camp day
Evaluate student and camper physical condition and refer appropriate resources as needed
Provide first aid care and medically prescribed support and/or services
Provide follow-up evaluations and care as needed
Negotiate professional and medical services essential to the school health program
Maintain records of immunizations, health findings, and other relevant health data
Coordinate school and community health activities and serves as a liaison health professional between home, school and community
Provide professional development on health-related topics for students and staff
Serve as primary resource for health-related questions issues.
Promote control of communicable diseases
Provide ongoing health counseling with students, parents, school personnel and health agencies
Use existing health resources to provide appropriate care of students.
Manages l health records in accordance with all federal, state, and county regulations.
Maintain clinic facilities to provide privacy and isolation
Provide support for work-related injuries
Ensure best practices are used so that all licensing standards are met and/or exceeded
Maintain strict confidentiality regarding children and their families
Maintain a friendly and positive work environment allowing students to express concerns in a confidential, non- judgmental, culturally-sensitive manner
Understand and comply with OSHA regulations pertaining to independent schools and camp
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
Experience working with children from 6 weeks to 14 years of age
Knowledge of principles and practices of the field of school health and nursing.
Knowledge of current trends in school nursing
Knowledge of health-related support organizations and resources
Familiarity with federal and local laws relating to health and social issues
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
