The Director of Student Life (DSL) is a member of the CFS Administrative Team and reports directly to the Head of School.
The DSL is charged with providing a comprehensive vision and working philosophy for the student life program at CFS with direct responsibility for the continuous recruitment, supervision, development, management, integrity and harmony of the student life team.
The DSL recommends for hire and is responsible for directly supervising, managing and evaluating several personnel including the Director of Residential Life, Disciplinarian(s), and residential faculty. The DSL is also responsible for essential program development including the overall living/cottage learning environment of the students, a residential curriculum and student leadership program. The DSL will also collaborate effectively with other function areas that support student life such as the Honor Council, Grade Level Chairs and Advisory program.
Serve as member of the CFS Administrative team and lead by example in collaboration with fellow administrators to support the implementation of the CFS mission:
attend administrative meetings
full admin team, internal admin team, retreats
model the best of CFS expectations and standards
regularly teach and update the standards of the Student Parent Handbook
keep regular administrative coverage assignments
weekday and weekends
scheduled for some vacation and summer coverage
assist Head of School in evaluation of faculty and staff
be available to the School at all times in key situations – emergencies, etc.
maintain appropriate written records, reports and budgets
Under a vision for student life, direct and oversee all non-academic, non-athletic areas of student life:
recruit and manage residential faculty
observe/evaluate residential faculty performance
assure a successful residential curriculum design and implementation
oversee development of cottage schedules and assignments – both faculty and student (especially Prefects)
oversee assignment of student rooms (new students with Director of Admission) and uphold policy
coordinate grade level chairs and grade level program
oversee assignment of advisors with input from School Counselor (new students with Director of Admission)
oversee cottage maintenance protocols and procedures
schedule annual faculty duty roster and rotation (OD schedule)
monitor health and well being of students
Wellness Committee member
direct a team of adults that oversees weekend program and weekday opportunities (SWAT)
oversee student employment program
manage daily work program (Dir Residential Life)
help monitor Student Congress, leadership and student elections
work with the Student Leadership program and student prefects
convene Conduct Review Board when necessary
make recommendations to Head of School as needed
regularly monitor and review Student-Parent Handbook
respond appropriately and timely to parent/outside questions, concerns and inquiries
develop uniform and consistent communication/messaging for and within residential curriculum and faculty teams
provide information for weekly announcements
stay current with and evaluate residential logs
monitor student use of social media and other technologies
maintain current information on the CFS web site
assure adequate control of arrival and departure transportation needs (international, domestic and local travel)
assure adequate student transportation to health/wellness appointments
Assist in managing other aspects of daily operations as needed
