Good Shepherd Episcopal School seeks a collaborative professional to build a strong educational foundation in an independent school while working closely with a lead teacher to become a skilled practitioner in elementary homeroom-based subjects. The ideal candidate will serve as an associate teacher in first grade and/or primer and will report to the Head of Lower School and the Associate Teacher Program Coordinator. He or she will adhere to the associate program philosophy and follow a scaffold model approach to assuming responsibilities. The Associate Teacher will prepare for and conduct small group reading and math lessons, as well as work in small groups and one-on-one with students. He or she will serve as a mentee by a lead teacher to gain valuable instructional and management experience. The ideal candidate will support the student-centered behavior model (i.e., Responsive Classroom, etc.), support the school's curriculum, embrace and implement technology in instruction, and apply consistent classroom management strategies to support an orderly classroom.
The preferred qualifications for the ideal Associate Teacher candidate are as follows:
Bachelor's degree required
Teacher certification preferred (may be in progress)
Strong interest in literacy and working with young children
Willingness to work in a team environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge of educational technology tools, including, but not limited to, iPads and Microsoft Office
Strong work ethic
