San Francisco Friends School, a Quaker school located in the Mission District of San Francisco, seeks an experienced, full-time middle school music teacher for the 2019–20 school year.
The school is looking for a music specialist to shape and guide the middle school music department, and who connects with the Friends school mission, which provides an exemplary education in a community dedicated to problem-solving, service to others, simplicity, social justice, and quiet reflection. Our Quaker mission also compels us to create a diverse and inclusive community; we seek a person who will thrive and contribute to such a community, both within and beyond the walls of the school.
San Francisco Friends School has vibrant and creative programs in the arts, service learning, technology, social justice, and social emotional learning, as well as the core academic subjects, mindfully choosing projects that meet our goals for student learning. The ideal candidate for this position possesses skills in instrumental, choral and digital music creation, and would be responsible for creating and implementing curriculum for general music in the fifth and sixth grades. The candidate would also be responsible for one music elective for both the seventh and eighth grades. Performances for all students would be expected at least once during the school year. The candidate would work closely with the arts department in integrated and transdisciplinary work in support of art projects and projects in the core classes—a willingness to collaborate is essential.
