The Foote School seeks a licensed Registered Nurse to serve the health and wellness needs of the summer school community. The Summer Nurse is called upon to manage existing health needs as well as to provide first aid and preventive health services to students/campers, addressing both physical and emotional health concerns as they arise. The ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with students/campers, parents, and all members of the summer school community is critical to the position, as is the ability to exercise thoughtful professional judgment and handle emergencies in a calm and professional manner.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Responsible for organizing and managing health records required for summer programs according to Connecticut State Law
Treating children and young adolescents with developmentally appropriate and kind care
Handle medical emergencies calmly and efficiently
Keep accurate records of all visits and dispensed medication
Communicate proactively with staff and parents about injuries and illnesses
Work with staff and parents regarding specific acute or chronic health needs such as allergies (food-based, environmental and/or medicine-based) or other conditions that may require medication or other interventions during the day
Monitor expiration dates for student/camper medications stored on-site during the summer as well as corresponding medication authorization forms and care plans
Ensure all medications have necessary authorization from both a physician and parent, including any over-the-counter medications as required by state law.
Ensure daily/emergency medications for student/campers are packed for all off-campus activities and field trips
Keep inventory of summer medical supplies and restock as necessary
Connecticut Licensed Registered Nurse
Current certification in CPR and AED from a recognized provider
Minimum of 5 years nursing experience including responding to emergencies and managing medication
Experience working with children aged 5-15
Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
