Williamsburg Northside School (WNS), a co-educational, PK-8 institution located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, seeks a science teacher for the 2019-2020 school year.
This position will begin in September as a maternity leave replacement coordinating and teaching science in grades PK-7, and then transition to the lower grade science specialist in January.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to inquiry-based lab science, have working knowledge of the Next Generation Science Standards, and a committed practice to project-based, interdisciplinary learning. The ideal lower school science teacher will possess a deep understanding of child development and experience working with students of various ages.
Plan and instruct 4 to 5 classes per day
Collaborate with the members of the science department and grade level teams
Contribute to the development of an exciting lab-based curriculum utilizing Next Generation Science Standards
Maintain lab materials and ensure safety precautions are followed by students
Communicate student progress clearly and effectively to students, parents and faculty, through emails, meetings, formal student reports
BA Degree minimum; advanced degree preferred in relevant area(s)
Experience working with children in a group setting, preferably in a school/summer camp program
Commitment to progressive education practices and hands-on, inquiry-based learning
Familiarity and interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) integration
