Oldfields School, an all-girls international boarding and day school, grades 8-12, in beautiful Baltimore County, Maryland, is looking for an experienced, full-time English teacher to begin August 2019. This is an outstanding opportunity for a person with a high degree of integrity and a keen interest and deep commitment to the value of single-sex independent school education.
As an international school community, Oldfields is committed to teaching a diverse group of students, including English language learners. Consequently, the ideal candidate is a teacher who is versatile and experienced in teaching literature, writing and language mechanics from the introductory level to the AP and honors levels. Applicants who are energetic, engaging and eager to inspire and support young women in a residential educational setting are best suited for this position.
Qualified candidates who are interested in assuming the role of department chair should also apply.
Responsibilities will include:
Teach four or five English classes
Participate in our experiential May Program
Coach and lead other extracurricular activity
Serve as a student advisor
Provide weekly dormitory supervision, serve on a weekend duty team and perform other duties associated with living and working in a boarding school setting as a residential faculty member
Serve on a monthly weekend team as a non-residential faculty member
Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in English or other closely related fields
Three or more years of full-time experience teaching English language and literature
Two or more years of experience as department chair if interested in being considered for the department chair position
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Appreciates and embraces the all-encompassing and interactive culture of a boarding school community
Respects the traditions and purpose of an all-girls secondary school education
