The Charter School of Wilmington (CSW) is the premier high school in Delaware. Established in 1996, CSW has a current enrollment of 970 students in grades 9-12, representing seven public school districts, and offers a college preparatory program with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) as a focus. CSW has a student/teacher ratio of 21:1, and 99% college placement rate. Consistently recognized with the highest assessment scores in the state, CSW is ranked #3 on Niche’s 2019 Best Charter Schools in America list, #1 STEM school by Niche in the Philadelphia region (January, 2019), #19 STEM high school in the nation by U.S. News and World Report (May, 2018), and is a U.S. Department of Education National Blue-Ribbon School.
The mission of CSW is to engage highly motivated high school students with an interest in math and science by providing a challenging college-preparatory curriculum in a safe, friendly, and nurturing environment that integrates practical learning opportunities, sets high expectations, develops social responsibility and promotes a global perspective.
To prepare students who are:
Thoroughly educated in mathematics and science.
Broadly educated in the humanities.
Technologically literate and understand the operation and use of computers and laboratory instruments.
Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Firmly grounded in character development.
CSW offers over 20 sports teams for students to participate in throughout the year, in addition to various other clubs and organizations. CSW students also have the opportunity to participate in several service projects and volunteer opportunities to make a positive impact on the community.
THE FACULTY AND STAFF
CSW currently has 70 faculty and staff, many of whom have advanced degrees.
Formed by a consortium of six local companies - DuPont, Ashland (Hercules), AstraZeneca, Christiana Care, Delmarva Power and Verizon - CSW is chartered by the Red Clay School District. Its Board of Directors are appointed from these founding companies along with parents, teachers and other community members. The Board upholds the philosophy and mission of CSW, manages the strategic planning process, oversees the financial well being of CSW and hires/evaluates the school President.

Located 30 minutes south of Philadelphia, mid-point between New York and Washington DC, Wilmington, DE is in the middle of it all with a unique blend of old and new. CSW seeks an exceptional leader to serve as President of our charter high school. We are looking for a proven professional dedicated to the idea that our school plays a fundamental role in preparing students for college, driving innovation, and providing choice in Delaware’s public education system.

Continue to raise the bar on our exceptional high school, drive our academic programs, celebrate our success, and have a growth mindset that inspires our students and staff.
Re-energize the vision for CSW and its next generation of students, families, faculty, staff and other stakeholders.
Foster an environment where faculty and staff are engaged, the school culture flourishes and there is a strong system for professional development.
Collaborate with stakeholders to think and plan strategically and execute on the goals and objectives for CSW.
Evaluate resources and support systems to attract, accommodate and enhance the overall learning experience.
Build relationships internally and externally to attract support and capital development to sustain current and future programs.
Develop, oversee, and implement marketing and outreach programs to continue building on CSW’s reputation.
Educate, inspire and motivate our community of students, parents, faculty, staff, board members, state regulators and other stakeholders.
Lead the administrative team responsible for overall daily operations including all aspects of hiring and retaining top talent, on-boarding staff, implementing successful performance management, budgeting, accounting, auditing and financial planning.
A successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, Master’s degree required, PhD preferred.
Proven track record of leadership and management experience with an entrepreneurial spirt.
Skilled at being a strategic thinker, relentless achiever, great collaborator, strong communicator and have an overall genuine connection with students.
Experience in providing a richer academic environment through fundraising and creation of successful development/capital campaign programs.
Ability to tackle issues objectively and creatively to build upon the success of CSW.
Demonstrated commitment to, and accountability for, a rigorous academic environment.
Experience evaluating classroom instruction, and knowledge of current trends in education.
Understanding of being in front of boards, legislatures and other stakeholders.
Familiarity working in a union environment.
