Hannah Senesh Community Day School is hiring a dynamic, collaborative, supportive, lower school learning specialist. This full-time position will work directly with students in kindergarten through fourth grade, to support, supplement and extend classroom teaching. This direct student intervention will be across all subjects but with particular attention to math and language arts. The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field, several years of teaching or specialist experience at the lower school level, training in Orton Gillingham or other related reading programs, facility with educational technology and strong knowledge base in the area of learning differences. The Learning Support Educator is responsible for the assessment, monitoring and differentiation of student instruction and learning. Collaborating with lower school director and grade level teachers the LS educator identifies individual students and determines optimal strategies for maximizing each student’s growth. LS reports directly to the Lower School Director.
Assess students’ skills to determine their needs and to develop learning plans
Adapt lessons and work with students individually and in small groups, through push-in and pull out services to teach reading skills and comprehension strategies, writing skills, and math support and enrichment.
Assess students’ performance, track and document their progress, and revise plans throughout the school year to reflect students’ progress towards learning goals
Support faculty to understand student learning profiles and to differentiate classroom instruction for students with varied learning styles or specific learning challenges.
Mentor associate teachers to support differentiated instruction in the classroom
Communicate with parents of students receiving services
Collaborate with Lower School Director, School Psychologist and School Learning Specialist to determine if a student needs further testing and/or support
