Bridges is a youth development program committed to the long term success of motivated young people in Baltimore City and to providing life-changing volunteer opportunities to independent school students. Our team of 12 currently serves 270 Baltimore City youth ages 9-22 and 186 independent high school volunteers per year via two program sites – Bridges at St. Paul’s School (est. 1993) & Bridges at Gilman School (est. 2014) – on a budget of $1.1mm. We are seeking one highly motivated professional to join our program team as the “College Success Specialist.” This role is critical to Bridges’ efforts to support students from the end of high school, through college, and into the start of their careers. Key responsibilities include providing individualized student support, transitioning students & families successfully at the end of high school and college, and assisting with related student programming as needed.
The ideal candidate:
Has demonstrated success helping students manage transitions, approach obstacles effectively, set and achieve goals, and work to potential
Would be viewed as a trusted and knowledgeable source for students / families on a range of topics as they move from high school graduation, through higher education, and into career
Has strong organizational and communications skills and would enjoy the challenge of supporting the individual success of each of Bridges’ post-high school students
Thrives in an entrepreneurial / mission focused environment that includes team-work as well as autonomy & strong time management skills
Is curious, would work hard to learn about (new) topics important to student success, and would be committed to professional development / enhancing support for students
The College Success Specialist will support / manage:
Summer (June – August)
Help rising college freshmen & families plan for the transition to college
Help current college students and families resolve challenges from the prior school year and set goals / plans for the coming one
Help recent college graduates with the adjustment from college to career
Prepare and plan for the upcoming school year School Year (September – May)
Get to know twelfth grade students / families
Help first-year college students adjust to new social and academic environments and learn to use on-campus resources effectively
Provide support for college students / families with academic, health, social, financial, major, or fit related challenges
Assist college seniors through the job search / decision-making process
Perform administrative responsibilities such as internal reporting / monitoring
Assist, as requested, with supplemental programming focused on community building, skill development, and career education / exposure for college students
Candidates with the following background will be considered for this role:
Education: Undergraduate degree with a proven record of academic success
Work Experience: 4+ years of successful and relevant work experience
Mission Alignment: Demonstrated orientation towards mission-focused initiatives
Personal Development: Demonstrated capacity to learn, adjust, and grow
Technical Skills: Experience with existing workplace technology (Excel, Outlook, Word, Dropbox) and ability to adapt to new applications as needed
