DEERFIELD ASSOCIATES has been retained by The Elisabeth Morrow School, located in Englewood, New Jersey, to conduct a national search for a Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer. The opportunity is available in July 2019.
The Elisabeth Morrow School, a coeducational day school serving students age 3 through grade 8, was founded in the 1930’s as the “Little School,” by Smith College classmates Elisabeth Morrow and Connie Chilton. In their quest to start a school for young children, these passionate educators traveled the world studying with pioneers such as Maria Montessori and John Dewey. More than 85 years later, the School, on the site of the former Morrow family estate, occupies a beautiful 14-acre setting, which includes nature trails, a brook, and many forms of wildlife. The School educates 430 students from over 50 different towns in Bergen, Hudson, and Union counties in New Jersey and from Manhattan, the Bronx, and Rockland counties in New York. The new hire will work closely with a dynamic, compelling Head of School in Maureen Fonseca, who will be joining EMS in July of 2019. The current endowment of the School is $14 million.
The Elisabeth Morrow School seeks a strategically-oriented and experienced financial and business leader to fill the key position of Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer. The CFO/COO will work closely with the Head of School in support of the school’s mission and strategic plan. The CFO/COO is responsible for the organization, management and implementation of comprehensive business, financial, and investment initiatives for the school.
The new CFO/COO will be a key member of the senior leadership team that oversees the day-to-day operation of the school as well as the “big picture” issues and ambitious plans that outline the school’s future. The ideal candidate for this high-profile position is a strategic thinker who has exceptional leadership and critical thinking skills. Our goal is to recruit a seasoned professional who will build on the significant accomplishments of the outgoing CFO/COO and determine what policies, technologies and programs need to be adapted to respond to the needs of the school and its strategic priorities.
Responsibilities include management and strategic leadership of the Business Office to ensure that appropriate financial controls are utilized effectively. Reporting directly to the Head of School, the CFO/COO will manage direct reports: Director of Facilities; Human Resources and Payroll Manager; Accounts Receivable and Accounting Supervisor and a Controller.
