The Director of Residence Life is responsible for overseeing the Residence Life program and four staff members who administer the program. This position encompasses providing strategic leadership, creating and overseeing implementation of boarding programing and managing day-to-day support for an international community of 25-35 high-school aged female boarding students. The Director is a committed professional who will challenge students to perform at their best and enthusiastically accepts the role of acting in loco parentis for the boarding residents. This position oversees the administration of safety and emergency response, health and wellness functions, student transportation, extracurricular activities, and the development and implementation of restorative discipline policies. The Director of Residence Life reports to the Associate Head of School and works closely with the Academic Team to ensure appropriate support for day school objectives. Housing is available in the dorm. Specific responsibilities include:
Establish the strategic direction of the boarding school for the academic year including staff orientation, professional development, and evaluation
Cultivate a collaborative living, working, and learning environment where all are valued
Provide leadership training, ongoing support and mentorship for four live-in residence life staff members and facilitate weekly staff meetings
Clarify policies, procedures, and protocols that determine staff functions and day-to-day residential life
Schedule flexible yet predictable daily duty rotation, providing for emergency coverage as needed
Provide a safe, welcoming, growth-fill environment for the students to thrive
Program development and implementation
Assist in the planning and execution of student orientation and Welcome Weekend activities
Develop and manage a disciplinary program that is restorative for both student and community
Assist with the revision of the student resident handbook
Ensure that staff monitor the social, emotional, physical, spiritual and intellectual health of students
Review, update and communicate policies and protocols related to physical and mental health
Oversee the continued development of a comprehensive resident activities program, with a focus on weekly family dinners and weekend activities/events
Works closely with the International Student Advisor to ensure that international students are supported academically in the boarding school.
Coordinate physical and mental health services for individual students
Moderates the Resident Community Council, the boarding student leadership organization
Coordinate student permissions and administration of REACH, boarding school management program
Oversee the assignment of host families during Thanksgiving break
Organize communication among boarding staff as well as between school departments: academic, student life, food services, maintenance, administrative staff, etc.
Produce regular parent communications
Represent the school and assist the admissions process as needed
Facilities management and budget administration
Assign student housing
Work with Business office to determine department budget; manage budget in a fiscally responsible manner
Work closely with maintenance team to ensure timely follow-up to facilities-related concerns
Work closely with food services to ensure staff and student nutritional needs and satisfaction
Emergency management, safety, and security
Oversee after-hours building safety and security in conjunction with security and maintenance teams
Plans and executes fire, tornado, and lockdown drills with residents
Liaise with local police, fire, and other emergency and safety services
A female with a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate educational field is required
At least three years of residence life or boarding school experience preferred
Excellent interpersonal skills, communicating clearly in written and oral forms with a diversity of constituents; detailed oriented and highly organized
Support, implement, and model the Goals and Criteria for Sacred Heart Schools
Uphold professional standards of personal presentation, discretion, punctuality, and clear, direct, open communication
Works well with adolescents and knowledgably about the issues of adolescent girls
Able to lead with wisdom and compassion, especially in disciplinary matters
Creativity and a passion for leading and mentoring others
Participate in the interviewing and selection of new residence life staff
When appropriate, engage in the life of the school (presence at assemblies, meeting, events, etc.)
A commitment to cultural diversity and ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Ability to speak Spanish or Mandarin is preferred but not required
A willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the WA community
