We are seeking a part-time mental health practitioner to serve Friend’s Academy Preschool and Lower School (Pre K Threes to 5th Grade). As a valuable member of the Student Success Team, the School Counselor works collaboratively with our K-12 Counselor, Director of Student Affairs, parents, teachers, and administrators to promote the cognitive, social, behavioral, and emotional development of all students. Areas of responsibility include consultation, assessment, evaluation, counseling, intervention, and instruction.
Serve as a critical member of the division’s Student Success Team
Provide consultation services as requested by school personnel, parents/guardians, and school administrators to support the development and well-being of students
Interpret psychological and educational evaluations
Provide individual and/or group counseling, behavior modification techniques, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution services
Serve as a liaison between school personnel and related service providers
Create and maintain thorough and timely reports, data, and other related records
Function as a case manager for all referred students
Performs other duties and responsibilities as needed and assigned by the Division Head, Assistant Head, and Head of School
A Master’s degree in School Psychology, Social Work or Mental Health Counseling
New York State Licensure or Certification
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to use technology effectively
Deep knowledge of child development, learning differences, resources, and current trends in the field
Child-centered, collegial, passionate, innovative
Working knowledge of the Department of Education and social service agencies for the procurement of needed student services
POSITION TYPE: Part-time; 25-30 hours
WORK YEAR: Teacher schedule, 10 months
WORK HOURS: Teacher work day plus evenings and other times needed to accommodate parent meetings, workshops, and special responsibilities.
