Dana Hall is seeking an experienced Upper School Social Studies teacher and Student Affairs Associate beginning in the fall of 2019.
Teaching responsibilities will include 2 sections of Social Studies, and the ideal candidate will possess most or all of these qualifications:
Experience teaching a variety of courses and grade levels in Upper School history or social studies
Commitment to academic vigor
Experience with and enthusiasm for incorporating non-western perspectives into the curriculum and teaching a diverse range of historical texts
Experience and willingness to implement progressive educational practices
Experience in employing a variety of pedagogical approaches for different learning styles
Commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment
Interest in using technology thoughtfully and creatively to enhance teaching and learning (Dana Hall School is a 1-1 iPad school)
Flexibility and collaborative spirit in working with department members and colleagues across disciplines
Student Affairs Associate responsibilities will include:
Coordinating on-campus and off-campus weekend activities for Upper School students.
Creating and managing the weekend duty schedule for Upper School faculty
Developing student activities and events in conjunction with Dana Hall clubs and organizations, as well as peer schools
Advising the Student Activities Club
Fostering continuing connections between the boarding and day community through participation in the Head’s Council for Residential Life
Coordinating or assisting with Student Affairs initiatives, such as orientation, retreats, leadership workshops, and end-of-year events, in addition to major Upper School events and traditions
Serving as a Class Dean
Successful candidates will be creative, energetic, organized, outgoing, and willing to bring vibrancy to the classroom and student activity programming. In both roles, candidates must be eager to connect with, encourage, and support students, as well as able to work closely with and coordinate colleagues.
