The Head of Lower School is responsible for providing leadership, strategic vision, and direction to all operations from N-6th grade at Good Hope Country Day School. They collaborate closely with the Head of Upper School (grades 9-12) and Head of Middle School (grades 7-8) to ensure strong vertical alignment of programs and culture. They will have the opportunity to shape a collaborative, talented lower school community excited to continue improving student learning.
Recruit and hire faculty for Lower School (N-6th grade)
Oversee professional development for N-6th grade faculty to enhance student learning
Manage N-6th grade faculty evaluation process to ensure continuous improvement across divisions
Ensure cohesive, challenging, mission-aligned curriculum for N-6th grade students based on age-appropriate best practices in teaching and learning
Oversee instructional supplies and budget for N-6th grade faculty
Assist the Head of School in managing all relevant accreditation processes for grades N-6
Design and manage mission-appropriate, student-centered daily and weekly schedule for grades N-6 in collaboration with Head of Upper School and Head of Middle School to maximize student learning and program alignment
Manage (and delegate as needed) all N-6th grade calendar events for students, parents, faculty, and others
Grading/Conferences and Assessment
Manage N-6th grade student grading system
Oversee N-6th grade parent-teacher conferences
Manage overall approach to assessment of student learning for grades N-6
Develop and manage program to inspire fulfillment of mission and instill core values
Manage all N-6th grade student behavior issues in collaboration with faculty and School Counselor to ensure a safe, optimal environment for student learning
Work as needed with Admissions Coordinator to follow up with and meet prospective grade N-6 families for visits, campus tours, and student evaluations
Manage (and delegate as needed) all after-school activities for grades K-6
Communications and External Relations
Ensure effective digital, print, and in-person communication with N-6th grade families
Make presentations as needed to various constituencies including Trustees
Perform other duties assigned by Head of School as needed
Bachelors Degree required. Masters Degree preferred. Must have at least three years of lower school administrative experience. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Highly proactive and eager to have an impact on evolving program.
The position will begin July 1, 2019 for the 2019-20 school year.
