The Admissions Associate & Event Coordinator works with the Director of Admissions and the Assistant Director of Admissions in the planning and implementation of all activities related to the recruitment and selection of students at Urban School. The Admissions Associate is supervised by the Director of Admissions.
The expectations for the Admissions Associate’s participation and responsibilities are as follows:
Possess in-depth knowledge of Urban’s progressive academic programs and activities that contribute to student development and serve as a primary source of information for students and parents
Coordinate and oversee the planning, organization, and execution of admissions events, including but not restricted to: Student Admissions Committee Retreat, fall Open Houses, fall Bay Area High School Fairs, Diversity Night, interviews, Decision and Revisit Week, Spring Freshmen Welcome, Families of Color Welcome, all of which take place on weekends or weekday evenings
Assist the Assistant Director of Admissions in the planning, implementing and overseeing of the Applicant Visit Program which includes, but is not limited to: scheduling applicant visits, coordinating with teachers, training and coordinating student tour guides, and welcoming and hosting visitors while on-campus
Promote Urban Admissions at Bay Area High School Fairs, Parent Information Sessions and Tours and other recruiting events
Support Assistant Director of Admissions with organization and management of Ravenna Application Systems
Interview prospective students and assist with organization of interview program
Coordinate student and parent volunteers for all admissions events
Represent the School during off-campus visits to Bay Area middle schools and community organizations to educate prospective students about Urban School
Read and assess student applications, as a standing member of the Admissions Reading Committee
Support the spring enrollment process for each year’s entering freshmen class and transfer students
Provide office and clerical support
Ability to type and sit for long periods; ability to listen and transcribe notes; ability to lift and carry 35 pounds
Candidates should possess a high level of integrity, impeccable organizational skills, enthusiasm for working with middle and high school students, and outstanding writing and public speaking skills. Candidates should be highly professional and able to use discretion in regard to confidential matters. In addition, candidates must have superior office administration skills, work effectively in a fast-paced work environment, both individually and collaboratively as a member of a team, and have a strong ability to multi-task and prioritize projects. Lastly, candidates should be self-motivated, energetic, friendly, easily approachable, able to work with a diverse group of people, and desire to be an engaged Urban community member. Previous experience in secondary school admissions is strongly preferred.
