The Pingry School seeks a dynamic and engaging Physical Education teacher and Resident Coach (Greig Family Strength and Conditioning Center). The ideal candidate possesses disciplinary acumen and experience in the field of physical education, demonstrates a thorough understanding of the programmatic elements of fitness and instructional elements of physical education, and enjoys working with both students and adults on physical fitness and wellness. An experienced coach of any number of sports, this educator models a healthy lifestyle and demonstrates a penchant for helping people to reach their fitness goals. With keen interpersonal and communication skills, this person maintains effective working relationships with all constituents and serves as a liaison among athletes, coaching staff, trainers, and other health professionals. A person with consistently high standards, the candidate of choice seeks growth and learning every day, both personally and professionally, and inspires others to do the same through optimism, selflessness, flexibility, and teamwork. The selected candidate has a real desire to contribute to the school community by sharing their passions and through additional efforts, such as advising students, directing clubs, or supervising activities.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
overseeing the strength and conditioning center during portions of the day
establishing and maintaining standards of excellence for supervision and student engagement
advising strength and condition center users on proper lifting technique, running mechanics, speed development, agility training, individualized and sport specific training, dryland conditioning aerobic/anaerobic concepts, flexibility and recovery methods, and nutrition.
supporting multi-sport participation for student-athletes
working cooperatively with other physical education teachers and administrators in planning and implementing physical education activities and programs for the strength and conditioning center
maintaining facilities and equipment
setting up and breaking down equipment for training sessions
working across a wide variety of settings (e.g., Middle School, Upper School, fitness center) and departments (e.g., auxiliary services, health department, physical education)
coaching both a Middle School sport and an Upper School sport each of three seasons
Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, exercise science, physical education, or a related field, fluency with general training methodology, and strong background in safety within a strength and conditioning environment. In addition to honor and character, commitment to intellectual engagement, and appreciation for stewardship and sustainability, especially important is the candidate’s ease with diverse constituencies and demonstrated commitment to an inclusive school community.
