Verde Valley School is seeking a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Farm Fellow to engage wholeheartedly in the day-to-day operations and educational programming on the VVS farm for the 2019-2020 academic year.
Bachelor’s degree. The ideal candidate will be or will possess:
Meaningful experience with agriculture or farming
Experience with and enthusiasm for experiential teaching and learning
Effective written and oral communication skills and proficiency using google suite
Dedication to making positive contributions to the student experience both inside and outside the classroom, including in dorms and in the outdoor program
Duties & Responsibilities:
Co-creating (under the guidance of the Farm Manager and Director of Experiential Education) and teaching a farm-based, credit-bearing semester-long elective course. The class would meet four days per week during the academic day.
Developing new and enhancing existing curricular and co-curricular programming that connect the academic and non-academic aspects of students’ lives with the VVS Farm.
Serving as the liaison between the VVS Farm and the VVS dining services
Working closely with the Farm Manager to plan and execute the agricultural program and community outreach including farmers market booth, CSA, and Farm to Table events
Designing, implementing, and coordinating two seasons of the VVS Farm Team, a co-curricular program that engages students for 2 hours/day after classes in the fall and spring during the afternoon activities block
Supporting and organizing the Farm components of Work Jobs, Orientation (faculty and student), Family Weekend, and Project Period
Assisting with the daily physical tasks associated with running a farm such as digging, planting, weeding, pest management and harvesting (approx. 20 hours per week)
Filling in for the Farm Manager during vacations
In addition, as a member of the VVS faculty, the Farm Fellow will be expected to participate in VVS community life through service in the residential (weeknight duty & weekend duties), and co-curricular programs (field trips & project period). As a faculty member, the Farm Educator will be on duty one weeknight per week and one weekend per month.
