The Magellan International School (Colegio Internacional Magallanes), a Spanish immersion school in Austin, Texas, has an opening for a full-time Librarian Associate. This position will work with our Primary School and Middle School (3rd - 8th grade) students. The Librarian Associate assists with the smooth and efficient functioning of the library on a daily basis. The Library Associate works collaboratively with the Information and Digital Literacy staff and teaches library and research to students from 3rd to 5th grades and Magellan faculty, staff and students. This position includes after-school and occasional weekend hours.
Create and maintain an atmosphere that encourages student and staff use of library and information resources.
Assist and motivate students and staff in the development of attitudes, habits, and skills leading to lifelong learning and independent and effective use of ideas and information.
Support the librarian in the development of a quality collection of physical and online resources and equipment based on an analysis of campus needs and available funding.
Carry out library circulation duties, including check-in and checkout of library materials, holds, overdue notices, and lost items.
Complete weekly shelf management duties including re-shelving, organization of materials, and shelf reading.
Coordinate MISPA shelving training and regular MISPA shelving volunteers.
Give basic reference regarding library resources including databases and catalog.
Process projects with the assistance of the librarian.
Repair damaged books.
Plan and implement research lessons as part of the IDL team for students in 3rd to 5th grades.
Assist with inventories and maintain circulation desk supplies.
Maintain after school hours in the library.

Encourage students to define individual goals.
Maintain a safe and creative environment for their students.
Support teachers and co-workers.
Attend all staff/faculty meetings.
Meet with Programme Coordinators to review curriculum plans and activities and evaluate program's effectiveness.
Maintain records on each child's progress and development.
Keep up-to-date records of attendance, curriculum, assessment tasks in ManageBac.
Carry out supervision at break times, lunch times, and other times as required.
Prepare documentation for IB external assessment.
Communicate professionally and effectively to parents about student progress.
Conduct individual parent conferences at the end of each term.
Establish a positive relationship with each student's family.
Attend parent meetings when required.
Promote the Magellan International School Mission.
Create and maintain connections with relevant community resources.

Required Education and Experience
Completion of an Associate Degree or Bachelor's Degree and one (1) year of library experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.
Fluency or advanced proficiency in Spanish and English is required.

Salary and Benefits
Salary between $35,000-$40,000, based on experience. This job operates in a library environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines and requires lifting, bending, standing, and stooping.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
Must be available to work Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm (some days will end at 4:00 pm). Some travel may be expected and weekend availability for events, though this is rare.
Some out-of-area travel may be expected with field trips, but is not common.
