Milton Academy, established in 1798, is an independent coeducational national boarding and day school, serving 1,000 students in grades K-12 on a 125 acre campus eight miles south of Boston.
Milton Academy is seeking a full-time Middle School English teacher for an opening beginning September 2019.
We seek an educator to teach sections of seventh grade English. Seventh grade English is gender-based, with a focus on classic and contemporary coming of age literature. Courses focus on analytical writing and discussion. Curricula also incorporate significant work on grammar and vocabulary preparation. Responsibilities alongside teaching English include advising a group of about 8 students, coaching, leading an activity and working collaboratively with the English department, the grade level teaching teams and the rest of the faculty.
Milton Academy welcomes candidates who would add to the racial, cultural and gender balance of the School community.
Qualified candidates will demonstrate a dedication to working with Middle School students and possess a strong base knowledge of literature, academic writing and grammar. Additionally, we expect experience developing and implementing multicultural curriculum, using technology in the classroom and an ability to collaborate across disciplines. A sense of humor is always appreciated, too. An advanced degree and three or more years of classroom experience are strongly preferred.
