Position Summary The English as Second Language (ESL) /English Language Learners (ELL) Instructor provides instruction to the Middle and Upper School students in the ESL/ELL program. This person will guide English language learners towards gaining proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Job Responsibilities • The primary focus of ESL/ELL teacher will be to instruct and teach international students (middle and upper school) regarding English language and culture in order to achieve maximum success as a student at the school • The teacher will follow the English-language curriculum adopted by the Division Head of the school, and develop lesson plans that adapt to the needs of the students • Teaches Bible courses to new International Program students • Works cooperatively with MPCS Instructional Coaches to learn feedback and continuously improve quality of instruction • Attends all required staff meetings, workshops and/or school functions • Maintains overall professionalism adhering to the MPCS guidelines • Supports the value of an education founded in Christian values • Supports the philosophy and mission of Mount Pisgah Christian School Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. • Bachelor’s Degree required; Masters or Doctoral degree preferred • Specialization in ESL teaching that emphasizes grammar, reading, writing, oral comprehension and expression. Specialized courses preferred are English Grammar and Pronunciation for Language Teachers; Second Language Research; Sociolinguistics; and K-12 Methods of Teaching ESL • Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Certificate required • Completion of the Praxis Basic Skills Assessment and Praxis II Content Area Assessments is preferred • Experience working as part of an academic team and facilitating a collaborative, trusting atmosphere among colleagues • A commitment to professional development and lifelong learning • A passion for integrating faith into academic discipline • A genuine ability to “connect” with and serve young people in a Christian community • Excellent written/oral communication skills
