Westtown seeks a dynamic part-time Upper School Arts teacher to teach introductory and intermediate level 2D Studio Art courses, which could include Digital Arts/Photography and Intro to Studio Art 2D. The successful candidate will join a team of experienced art educators as we implement a new process-oriented curriculum built on teaching iteration, reflection, visual literacy and personal growth, rooted in our Quaker traditions. An artist/teacher with an interest in pedagogy, an understanding of art as a tool for understanding and social change, and a commitment to creating art that asks and solicits big questions will thrive in our program.
This person will teach 2-3 classes a semester while actively engaging as a member of the Upper School Visual and Performing Arts Department, will work with colleagues to create promotional materials for department programs, and could receive on-campus housing through participation in the Upper School Residential Life program.
The candidate should have:
2 to 3 years’ experience teaching high school students.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field; Master’s degree strongly preferred
A willingness to examine the changing role of art education for 21st century learners and an eagerness to be part of a growing arts program
A demonstrated interest in contemporary arts pedagogy and experience as an active studio artist.
Experience with drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, and digital media is essential.
Experience with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator is required.
The school seeks an Upper School 2-D Art teacher to:
Teach digital art/photography
Possibly one section of Introduction to Studio Art: 2-D
Provide graphic design support for visual and performing arts programming
Collaborate with Arts faculty
Attend weekly department meetings
Participate in and support arts programs on campus
