The Middle School Science Department is seeking candidates for a full-time Science position. Applicants must have a broad background in science topics including both physical and environmental science. Sandy Spring Friends School seeks to nurture the whole child, and a successful candidate should have the ability to work with middle school age children who represent a broad range of abilities and learning styles. SSFS seeks teachers who value the importance of issues of diversity and can both share and teach differing points of view.
Qualifications include: Bachelor’s degree in Science or closely related field; a master’s degree is desirable. Prior teaching experience in a middle school setting is preferred. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, effective oral and communication skills, and experience working with cooperative and differentiated instruction. Familiarity with Quaker education and the Developmental Designs or Responsive Classroom approach would be advantageous.
Physical Requirements: The ability to navigate stairs as part of daily routines; mobility around a large campus with uneven pavement; bending and squatting as required to participate in activities; lifting/carrying boxes up to 25 pounds; and the ability to rearrange furniture for activities is occasionally required.
