The San Francisco Friends School, a Quaker K-8 school located in the Mission district of San Francisco, seeks a Development & Communications Associate to join its Development Office in the summer of 2019. The Development & Communications Associate reports directly to the Director of Advancement, and plays an important role by providing database, administrative, and communications support to the Development team, as well as overseeing the Alumni Relations program. A member of the administrative team of Friends, this position interacts with all constituencies of the school, including parents, alumni, trustees, and faculty and staff. The ideal candidate would be detail-oriented, energetic, and a collaborative problem-solver with a sense of humor and excellent judgement. The Development & Communications Associate is a full-time non-exempt twelve–month position, with a competitive salary based on experience and qualifications, a comprehensive benefits package and a supportive school community.
Oversee gift processing and gift acknowledgement, ensuring all gifts and pledges are entered into the database, stewarded, and acknowledged in a timely fashion; generate pledge reminders
Manage aspects of the Development database (Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge), including updating constituent information, producing mailing lists and labels, creating and updating donor lists, and processing donations and ticket sales
Oversee Alumni Relations program including building and maintaining relationships with alumni students and parents through outreach, events and publications
Work closely with parent volunteers, faculty and administration, and outside vendors on special development events throughout school year, including but not limited to GrandFriends Day, Booktopia, and our annual silent auction the Blue Party
Help design and coordinate the production of a variety of print and digital publications, including invitations, flyers, newsletters, and more
Support the Board of Trustees and Parents Association as needed, including taking minutes at meetings
Order and manage office supplies for Development Office
Organize and maintain an effective information filing and retrieval system
Assist with school-wide events such as back to school nights, Parents Association events, graduation, faculty events, and school duties including phone coverage and reception
Manage and provide support for other duties as assigned
Provide administrative support to the Director of Advancement as needed
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent with two to three years of experience
Database management experience, preferably with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge or similar fundraising database
Excellent interpersonal skills, including patience, discretion, good judgment and sense of humor; prior volunteer management helpful
Ability to handle multiple projects, work independently and produce quality results on schedule
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present information concisely and effectively; experience utilizing various platforms of social media
Impeccable attention to detail
Some evening/weekend work required

Regularly remain sedentary for long periods of time (80%) in meetings and while processing information and paper, working both manually and on a computer.

Some standing required and the ability to lift, carry and/or pull at least 10 pounds
Additionally, must be able to converse in clear English both written and orally, over a telephone and in person, and be able to make public presentations.
Work hours vary and may include days, nights, and weekends.
