MICDS is seeking a dynamic and versatile Teaching Associate starting in the 2019-2020 academic year. This position is one year with the possibility of renewal for one additional year. Under the guidance of the homeroom teacher, the Teaching Associate will assist with and support classroom instruction, assessment and supervision while gaining experience in various aspects of pedagogy and instructional experience. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor degree in elementary education and/or early childhood education, and experience working with young children in a teaching and learning situation (may include student teaching). Broad-based knowledge of child development, pedagogy and teaching strategies, good verbal skills with students, colleagues and parents, demonstrated organization skills, and must enjoy working with children in a diverse community.
To partner with the lead teacher(s) with regards to teaching, assisting with classroom management and transitions, and preparation of materials.
Instruct/assess children in small and large groups and work one on one with children as directed by the lead teacher.
Assist in transitions to and from scheduled activities outside of the homeroom.
As needed, support teachers in other curricular areas.
Contribute to daily and yearly classroom/teaching set up and clean up procedures. Will include creating student materials, may include preparation of and work with technology resources.
Supervise and lead the classroom when the teacher is out of the room.
Supervise within duty rotations as assigned.
Attend designated staff meetings and recommended professional development.
Work occasional days/evenings outside of the regular school day, e.g., New Student Orientation, Parent Night, and Parent/Teacher Conference days.
Teach/play indoors on the floor as well as outdoors on the playground.
While performing the duties of this position the teacher must enjoy working and learning with young children.
Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the School’s discretion.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education and/or Early Childhood Education required.
Ability to work in an environment that embraces a diverse community of students, educators, parents, and alums.
Experience working with young children in a teaching and learning situation (may include student teaching).
Broad-based knowledge of child development, pedagogy and teaching strategies.
Interested in professional growth and contributing to a collaborative teaching environment.
Good verbal skills with students, colleagues and parents.
Demonstrated organizational skills.
