The Junior High Principal supports and is a direct report to the K-8 Administrator with general administrative duties to support a successful junior high school. Under the direction of the K-8 Administrator, serves as a co-leader in planning, coordinating and administrating school activities and programs including student spiritual life activities, student conduct and discipline, testing, extracurricular programs with the goal of student character development and spiritual formation to support the mission of VCS.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Student Life Activities:
Ensures the integration of biblical principles and Christian philosophy of education throughout the extra and co-curricular activities
Plans and coordinates spiritual life events on and off campus (weekly chapels, spiritual emphasis retreats, service days, etc.) including but not limited to purchasing, transportation and scheduling
Directs the advisors of the student clubs and as assigned or in collaboration with staff members
Supervises students during assigned duties based on the needs of the school
Oversees the organization and reporting of all standardized testing (i.e. MAP Testing for JH)
Ensures testing data is implanted via unit plans across the grades
Assists with student discipline and leads such efforts as required by the K-8 Administrator
Maintains accurate record keeping of infractions and communications with parents/guardians and staff
Utilizes knowledge of classroom management and conflict resolution techniques to support faculty
Leads and actively participates in various leadership and faculty meetings
Assists K-8 Administrator with faculty observations
Assists K-8 Administrator with admissions interviews
Attends and supervises after-school, evening, and weekend school-sponsored events and activities
Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information
Assists with the revision of academic policies and integrity as supervised by the K-8 Administrator
Assists K-8 Administrator with creating and maintaining school-wide schedules
Attends Student Support Team meetings
Other duties as assigned by the K-8 Administrator
Has ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Has ability to oversee a variety of student extra-curricular activities
Has ability to facilitate a digital mapping system (i.e. Atlas) and work with teaching standards
Writes clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar; presents numerical data effectively.
Follows policies and procedures; completes administrative tasks correctly and on time and supports VCS’ Mission, Vision and Core Values.
Prioritizes and plans own work activities; uses own time efficiently and sets personal goals and objectives
Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; looks for ways to improve and promote quality and monitors own work to ensure quality
Meets deadlines; completes work in a timely manner; strives to increase productivity
Qualifications & Qualities:
Born-again believer in Jesus Christ, regular attendance at a Bible-believing and preaching church that stands in agreement with the VCS Statement of Faith
Possesses a clear philosophy, passion, and pursuit of excellence for Christian Education and VCS vision
Holds a master’s degree in Education
Has 3-5 years of successful classroom teaching experience
Has a minimum of 3 years of related administrative experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in supervision and administration preferred.
Possesses excellent organizational skills and communication skills (written and oral)
Is a person of spiritual maturity with academic abilities and leadership qualities
Is flexible, compassionate and energetic
Fosters healthy relationships with students, parents, co-workers and administration
Has experience and expertise in working through challenges with students, families and faculty
Has successful experience working with culturally diverse families and communities
Is willing to engage and lead professional development training as needed for staff and teachers
Has high degree of skill with and knowledge of technology, has experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Student Management software
