Reporting to the Assistant Head of School for Academic Affairs, the Literacy Specialist is a faculty member who works collaboratively to implement a quality literacy program that meets the needs of all learners. The selected individual will work closely with K-4 classroom teachers to support student learning and pedagogical practice, ensuring that data supports decision-making. This individual will lead periodic curriculum revisions, stays current on best practices, and provides 1:1 and small group support based on the needs of individual teachers and students.
Assist teachers on implementing instructional strategies that support Summit’s literacy program using data-driven goals.
Lead teacher teams to discuss the literacy curriculum/data/instructional needs.
Lead the administration of yearly testing and analysis of data, and support the sharing of results with the appropriate Division Directors, Administrators and the Head of School. Coordinate and interpret benchmark test results.
Attend professional development to enhance knowledge of pedagogy and content.
Communicate and demonstrate researched-based instructional practices that result in increased student performance.
Collaborate with faculty to garner trust and build a professional learning community which ensures teachers access available supports.
Facilitate the intellectual and professional development of teachers with a focus on improving student achievement in literacy.
Assist teachers in obtaining resources and materials that are in alignment with curriculum.
Master’s degree in Literacy Education or related field required.
Minimum of 5 years teaching experience.
Current Ohio teaching certification.
Possesses a comprehensive understanding of literacy best practices.
Ability to lead and support the learning of teachers as well as students.
Ability to gather and interpret data to guide instruction and to present data to stakeholders.
Previous coaching or teaching leadership experience.
Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Strong communication and collaborative skills.
