The Library Media Specialist is an essential link in the educational learning community and is responsible for planning, directing, implementing, and evaluating the school library program. The goal is to assist all students in becoming active and creative locators, evaluators, and users of the information to solve problems, think critically, and to satisfy their own curiosity through research and reading experiences. In addition, the library media specialist works with teachers and students to teach the research process that culminates in a formal written composition.
Responsibilities include the following:
Maintains a variety of materials that invites intellectual curiosity and assists students in acquiring information from various learning resources.
Develops a research and library skills program relating to the needs of the students.
Assists students in becoming effective users of library resources.
Oversees all existing library programs, including visiting Author Series and Book Fair.
Interfaces with teachers keeping them informed of current materials and facilitate their use of all library resources.
Maintains a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging library materials and instructs teachers and students on the use of the system.
Integrates library services and multimedia materials with the instructional program.
Coordinates the development of the summer reading lists and effectively communicates this to parents and teachers
Shows professional growth by continuing with education, attending conferences and workshops, keeping current on new technology developments, reading professional literature, and participating in area (HAISLN) functions.
Joins with teachers to identify links with curricular content, learning outcomes, student information needs, and information resources.
Guides and directs all the activities related to the library media program and provide the knowledge and vision to steer it creatively in the 21st century.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Head of School.

Master’s Degree in Library Science or Master’s Degree with Library Certification
Library experience preferred
Ability to write and speak effectively
Ability to work well with other teachers
