Green Hedges School seeks an experienced Visual Arts Teacher for the 2019-2020 school year for its Lower School and Middle School divisions. Green Hedges is a private independent preschool through Grade 8 school with approximately 140 students in Vienna, Virginia, fourteen miles west of Washington, DC. The position includes additional responsibilities (for example yearbook, set design) to create a full time position.
Green Hedges School Includes three divisions:
Preschool: Ages 3 through 5, Montessori philosophy
Lower School: Grades 1 through 5, traditional
Middle School: Grades 6 through 8, traditional
The Visual Arts Teacher guides all facets visual arts education. Support the developmental needs of students.
Create positive learning communities within the classroom that acknowledge and respect children’s social and emotional interactions and growth.
Employ a variety of teaching methods to ensure optimal learning for all students.
Coordinate curriculum mapping.
Collaborate with colleagues to develop the ideal learning environment for each child.
Lead school-wide assemblies dedicated to the visual arts
Work cooperatively with all classroom and special teachers (e.g., library, music, drama, science, PE, foreign language) to create interdisciplinary projects.
Maintain displays of student artwork on and off campus.
Support the drama program by assisting with creation of scenery and props.
Build on an expanding knowledge of how children learn best.
Work diligently and promptly to maintain positive and constructive home-school communication.
Attend school events.
Use assessment and evaluation to guide instructional decisions; maintain accurate, up-to-date records and communicate results to parents and appropriate others in a timely manner with regard to student progress and performance.
Perform professional duties efficiently, manage resources effectively and meet deadlines and meeting schedules set by the School.
Assist students in their art curriculum-related presentations at all-school assemblies
Write several articles related to the Visual Arts program for school newsletter
Participate in the special subject departmental work.
Work towards school-wide goals and curriculum initiatives.
Observe the policies and procedures as set forth in the Personnel Manual.
Serve as an advocate for the School in the wider community.
Perform professional duties as assigned by the Head of School or the Assistant Head of School. These duties may include but are not limited to recess duty, lunch duty and dismissal duty.

Requirements A successful candidate for the Visual Arts Teacher position will have: Undergraduate degree (masters preferred) in art education or a related field
Minimum of 3 - 5 years of teaching
Experience in the design and implementation of a developmentally appropriate curriculum for visual arts
Proficient knowledge of the academic and social-emotional development of young children
A high level of energy
Good time management skills
Strong communication skills
