The Spanish Educator at Rio Grande School is a part-time (32 hours a week), 10-month position beginning in August 2019.

Qualified individuals should be fluent and literate in Spanish and a proven record of successfully teaching Spanish, have a minimum of three to five years of elementary Spanish teaching experience and have attained at least a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.

Compensation will be determined by years of teaching experience and highest degree earned.  Educators' salaries at Rio Grande are highly competitive. In addition to salary, the school offers this position a retirement plan with matching contributions (after the first year of employment), medical insurance, life insurance, and both short and long term disability insurance.

The Spanish Educator’s primary responsibilities include:

• Foster enjoyment for a second language;
• Articulate a developmentally appropriate scope and sequence of language acquisition across grade levels;
• Deliver an engaging curriculum that utilizes the four literacies – listening, speaking, reading, and writing;
• Instill and promote cross-cultural appreciation:
• Preparing materials and classroom for class activities;
• Instructing students individually and in groups, using a variety of instructional strategies;
• Adapting teaching methods and instructional materials to meet the varying needs of the students;
• Implementing accommodations and modifications to classroom curriculum to meet student learning needs;
• Setting expectations for student behavior and classroom decorum;
• Collaborating with core educators other co-curricular educators in order to bridge and build content knowledge in two languages through an integrated curriculum;
• Meeting with other professionals to discuss individual students' needs and progress;
• Communicating and meeting with parents and guardians to discuss their children’s progress and to determine their priorities for their children and their resource needs;
• Communicating with parents to share daily and weekly classroom news.

Additional responsibilities include:

• Attending professional meetings, educational conferences, and educator training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence;
• Attending all faculty meetings;
• Other duties as assigned by the school administration
