Worcester Preparatory School seeks an experienced full-time Middle School English teacher to instruct students primarily in 8th Grade English but also may include a history section and/or study skills section. Hallmarks of the 8th Grade English include grammar, literature, vocabulary, writing and introduction to the research process. This position reports to the Middle School Head and typically teaches five sections per day in a seven period schedule and may be assigned study halls, clubs, or other supervisory roles. Section sizes generally range from 14 – 18 students. In addition, each faculty member in the Middle School serves as advisor to seven to nine students. The position could also include roles as a class sponsor and/or directing after school programs for middle school students depending on candidate interest. Candidate should embrace a collaborative style with other faculty members and be comfortable communicating with parents.
Candidates for this position should possess a BA/BS degree in the liberal arts (preferred) with the demonstrated ability to teach English at the above referenced level. Previous experience teaching middle school students is desirable. State certification is not required. Candidates with the experience and interest to coach Varsity Girls Lacrosse or assist in coaching Varsity/JV Boys Soccer are desirable.
