Palm Beach Day Academy, established in 1921, is an independent coeducational school, serving 380 students from age 2 to Grade 9, on two campuses. This candidate should have experience with robotics, engineering and stem-based application of content. Incoming students will be prepared for upper level science classes that expose them to high-level application of content research and lab skills.Our upper elementary science program is designed to spark the students’ sense of wonder where they ask questions and think critically to solve real world problems. With a hands-on, inquiry-based approach, the students are engaged and encouraged to be creative, curious, open-minded and collaborative while developing their scientific skills and knowledge.
PBDA is in its first year of on-campus coral restoration, and this candidate will continue to help manage this program along with the other members of the science department. The Coral Project, along with our sustainability efforts surrounding the Everglades, makes it clear this candidate will be dialed into all types of environmental issues.
Candidates should be flexible and stay current with educational research in order to be prepared to teach the course content effectively. A strong understanding of utilizing technology as a teaching tool in our one-to-one computing environment is imperative.
Teachers should include a variety of teaching strategies in and out of the classroom in order to be effective for all types of learners. This may include, but is not limited to: hands-on learning; project-based learning; place-based learning; collaborative activities; content reading; discussion; and technology.
Strong candidates will have 4-7 years of middle school experience. While all applicants will hold a Bachelor’s degree with concentration in Science, a Master’s degree is preferred. For more information, visit our website at www.pbday.org.
