Palm Beach Day Academy, established in 1921, is an independent coeducational school, serving 380 students from age 2 to Grade 9, on two campuses. The foundation of PBDA’s program is the education of our students in an academically challenging and compassion-rich environment that guides each child toward personal excellence of mind, body and character. The Upper Campus, which houses Grades 4-9, seeks a Middle School/Upper School Science teacher for the 2019-2020 school year to teach 9th Grade Biology and 8th grade Life Science/pre-Chemistry.
This candidate should have experience with robotics, engineering and stem-based application of content. Incoming students will be prepared for upper level science classes that expose them to high-level application of content research and lab skills.
PBDA is in its first year of on-campus coral restoration, and this candidate will continue to help manage this program along with the other members of the science department. The Coral Project, along with our sustainability efforts surrounding the Everglades, makes it clear this candidate will be dialed into all types of environmental issues.
Candidates should be flexible and stay current with educational research in order to be prepared to teach the course content effectively. A strong understanding of utilizing technology as a teaching tool in our one-to-one computing environment is imperative.
Teachers should include a variety of teaching strategies in and out of the classroom in order to be effective for all types of learners. This may include, but is not limited to: hands-on learning; project-based learning; place-based learning; collaborative activities; content reading; discussion; and technology.
A willingness to collaborate in the development of curriculum is an essential skill, as the Middle School science team is in the midst of an exciting curricular redesign. The best candidates will also demonstrate an ability to successfully collaborate with colleagues across disciplines.
Strong candidates will have 4-7 years of independent middle school experience. While all applicants will hold a Bachelor’s degree with concentration in Science, a Master’s degree is preferred. For more information, visit our website at www.pbday.org.
