This position seeks a professional to support Avon Old Farms School’s mission by building and leveraging relationships to help generate institutional resources which will enhance the academic, student, and residential life experience provided to students.
The scope of the position is broad – encompassing activities related to both the enrollment and the fundraising aspects of Avon Old Farms School. This position will support Avon Old Farms Schools fundraising efforts by building and establishing relationships with constituents that have high financial capacity. A successful Advancement Officer/ Major Gifts Officer will collaborate to develop a strategy and build a system that capitalizes on the relationships built throughout the enrollment process and their experience at AOF and beyond to yield strong fundraising results.
Utilize relationships with alumni, parents, and grandparents to generate support for major gifts work.
Collaborate with Advancement staff to identify key markets and develop strategies to leverage area resources in an effort to find prospective students and fundraise with donors.
Develop and implement strategies for broad-based engagement.
Collaborate with Advancement colleagues to implement cultivation and solicitation strategies for current and past parents, as well as grandparents.
Manage a pool of prospects with the capacity to make gifts of $25,000 and more; responsible for the cultivation and solicitation of these individuals, as well as for ensuring appropriate stewardship.
Cultivate, solicit, and steward a pool of prospective donors with the capacity to make gifts to support school priorities; assessment of selected prospects on an ongoing basis.
Work independently and creatively to match donor interests with institutional priorities.
Attend Advancement events on-campus, locally, regionally, and nationally.
Develop funding proposals; negotiate and structure complex gifts
Coordinate with annual fundraising staff - who manage the Parents' of Avon and Parents’ Fund annual giving program
Monitor and report on fundraising progress, including prospect tracking and moves management
Coordinate briefings, proposals, and correspondence for prospects
Maintain in-depth knowledge of the Avon's priorities, academic and co-curricular programs, and develop relationships with key faculty and administrators
Due to the demands of this position, 40-50% travel can be expected.
Work cooperatively with others and accept direction from supervisors

Qualifications & Characteristics
A. degree in related field (advanced degree preferred) and at least 5 years of experience in professional fundraising organization preferably in independent school or higher education setting.
Proven track record of developing and cultivating relationships which leads to meeting fundraising goals. Previous campaign fundraising experience preferred.
Goal and metric driven
The ideal candidate will be strong, collaborative, energetic individual with seasoned fundraising experience and background.
Must demonstrate an ability to work both independently and as a team member, prioritize work, and meet deadlines while managing multiple tasks and maintaining a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with best practices in independent school fundraising.
Ability to maintain a climate of professionalism, advocacy and confidentiality.
Experience qualifying donors and creating reasonable donor goals.
Ability to initiate and maintain personal contacts and solicitation plans.
Exceptional time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
Ability and interest in serving the mission and vision of Avon Old Farms School through successful fundraising efforts.
