The part-time Assistant Director of the Extended Day Program vacancy reports to the Director of the Extended Day Program and the Director of Auxiliary Programs. Duties & Responsibilities
Assist the Director in running day-to-day operations of the Extend Day Program
Follow all procedures and guidelines outlined by the Virginia Department of Social Services
Handle general issues and concerns from parents
Assist Director in monitoring and observing other staff
Assist Director in maintaining records of individual children
Attend all staff meetings and contribute to center’s general appearance and condition
Interact and respond to the children in a positive tone and manner
Support children’s emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts
Substitute for Director, if needed and perform other duties as assigned.
Assist with snack set-up, distribution and answering telephone
Organize and participate in all children’s play or recreational activities
Instruct children in healthy personal habits
Monitor children’s rest/quiet time and assist with homework as needed
Maintain all equipment and materials so that the environment is safe and clean
Interact with the children in a supportive manner always using a positive tone of voice
Be flexible and willing to take on new responsibilities especially when another staff members are absent
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Bachelor’s Degree (preferred) and 2+ years of related work experiencein a day care or educational setting
Knowledge and experience with a certified Day Care Program is preferred
Must be CPR, First Aid certified (Potomac will cover expenses of these certifications)
Current TB screening
Must have clear background checks on following: (Potomac will file and cover fees)
VA Criminal History Record Report
VA Child Abuse Report
This position requires a person be in good physical shape with the ability to lift and carry large items, easily work on the floor with children, monitor and play outside in all types of weather, and sit or stand for extended period.
Must stay up to date with required professional development training as required by Virginia Department of Social Services. Potomac pays for these trainings
Must be able to clearly communicate in the English language both verbally and in writing
Experience with basic computer skills is a plus
