Open Window is currently aligning its middle school science program with Next Generation Science Standards. Classes are typically limited to 16-18 students and have both a Lead Teacher (this position) and a dedicated Associate Teacher to aid in differentiation of the curriculum. Topics and themes include:
7th Grade – Chemistry (Atomic Theory, Chemical Reactions, and Bonding), Astronomy (Star Cycle and Element Formation), Neuroscience
8th Grade –Biology, (Biochemistry, Organisms and Cells, Photosynthesis, selected body systems (e.g., Nervous and Cardiovascular Systems), Genetics, Populations and Ecosystems, Tropical Rainforest of Costa Rica (field research and observations)
Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate previous experience:
Inspiring bright students with a creative and innovative curriculum
Understanding of and appreciation for the developmental needs of adolescents
Experience in the use of technology for instruction
Creativity, differentiation, and acceleration with a defined yet flexible curriculum
Combining traditional math instruction with interdisciplinary STEM activities
Strong candidates will have:
Valid teaching certificate from Washington or another state
Experience working with gifted students
Experience with an Advisory program
