Job Summary We are seeking a candidate for the 2019-2020 school year to work in partnership with students, families, and faculty to create a supportive environment to ensure that every student is successful and thriving at Elgin Academy, not only academically, but socially and emotionally as well.
Work collaboratively with Upper, Middle, and Lower School Directors, the Director of International Studies, and the Athletic Director to create a support team for students and student-athletes
Counsel students individually and in groups as needed
Support the Middle and Upper schools by providing faculty with social-emotional lessons that can be incorporated within advisory classes
Create and conduct small group counseling support sessions that serve the varied needs of Middle School students
Work with the Upper and Middle School Directors to create and facilitate student learning plans based on diagnoses and needs identified by outside professionals and to assist students in applying for accommodations on standardized testing (ERB, ACT, SAT, etc.)
Support Lower School faculty with age-appropriate social-emotional lessons that can be used in homerooms
Facilitate and attend meetings that include students, faculty, and parents, when appropriate, to support student growth and learning
Sponsor the Upper School SAFE (Students Allied for Equality) club
Help the division directors evaluate psychological assessments of students by coordinating and communicating the school’s response and serving as the repository of that information
Provide continuing education for faculty/staff on topics relevant to student emotional/social growth
Participate in the admission process, upon request, to help assess an applicant's likelihood of success as a student at Elgin Academy
Work with the school’s administrative team to respond to emergency situations that may affect the emotional well being of students
Work with other student support personnel to help ensure a personal experience for all students
