The Churchill School and Center seeks an innovative educator to provide instructional support to upper school students. Support may be in small group and/or one-on-one settings. The learning specialist will also collaborate with classroom teachers to provide specific strategies for teaching students in the content areas.
As the Testing Coordinator, the role is also responsible to ensure appropriate accommodations and supports are in place for students taking state assessments as well as the ACT and SAT.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Deliver 1:1 and small group decoding instruction to upper school students
Teach mini-units to freshmen in comprehension strategies
Assist with reading assessment and scoring
Oversee and coordinate the process for securing testing accommodations for the ACT and SAT alongside the Guidance Counselor
Work with students to provide support in small groups, as well as individually
Collaborate with teachers to help meet the needs of all learners in the classroom
Participate in some extracurricular activity with the students, as a part of the country day model
Communicate effectively and respectfully with students, faculty, staff, parents, and outside support
Work collaboratively with others in the department to further the Learning Support Initiative
Attend community events throughout the school year
Attend and engage in meetings during and after the day, including, but not limited to department, committee, division, and grade-level meetings.
M.A. as a Reading Specialist or a related field
New York State Certification
A minimum of 3 years experience preferred.
