Charlotte Latin School is seeking an experienced candidate to coordinate an established, experiential education program for students in grades K-12. The selected faculty member will have access to our 128-acre wooded campus with low and high challenge course elements. Additionally, the faculty member will be a part of a growing and dynamic leadership development team that includes Global Studies and Service Learning.
Key areas of the role will include:
Implement Experiential Education programs in all three divisions of the school (Upper, Middle, and Lower schools)
Provide students with growth oriented opportunities through Experiential Education
Manage the Challenge Course including equipment maintenance and insurance coverage
Provide Challenge Course management training and professional development
Deliver Team building programs
Engage as a Middle School Student Advisor
Serve as member of CLS Leadership Development Team
Experience teaching or guiding student age children in Experiential Education required
Experience with Challenge Courses
Strong classroom and experiential management skills; commitment to safety and civility
Willingness to teach Experiential Education activities
Commitment to wellness and working with the whole child
Passion for working with children in this age group
Strong desire to participate in the whole life of the school
Willingness to grow and learn new ways of teaching
Flexibility in working with colleagues and students
Ability to build a strong rapport with colleagues and serve as a collaborative team player
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Working Conditions and Environment
Intermittently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds
Ascend high challenge course elements up to 45 feet
Wear and fit full body and waist climbing harnesses
Belay participants on challenge course
Continuously see, sit, balance, grasp, and have repetitive use of arms, wrists, hands, and fingers; and some fine finger dexterity
Frequently talk and hear
Intermittently stand, stoop, bend, twist, crouch, kneel, crawl, walk, job, climb stairs and ladders, squeeze, and reach above shoulders
Exposure to moderate indoor temperatures of heat and cold and possible extreme outdoor temperatures
