Report: Assistant Director of the Academic Strategies Program
Oldfields School, an all-girls international boarding and day school, grades 8-12, in northern Baltimore County, Maryland, is looking for an experienced Learning Support Specialist to begin at the end of August 2019 and continue through November 2019. The Substitute Learning Support Specialist will work under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Academic Strategies Program and will work collaboratively with the teaching faculty and advisors to provide academic coaching, support and guidance for students identified with specific learning needs as well as other students who would benefit from academic coaching. Candidates must have knowledge of and be able to implement best practice strategies to support students with mild to moderate learning disabilities.
Responsibilities will include:
Teach students one-on-one or in small groups study skills/strategies, test-taking skills, time and materials management, and critical reading and writing skills.
Communicate regularly with parents and student advisors via detailed weekly reports highlighting outcomes of the student’s academic coaching sessions.
Communicate regularly with teachers to collaboratively meet students’ needs.
Observe students in classes in order to further evaluate their learning needs.
Work with Assistant Director of the Academic Strategies Program to provide professional development for faculty and staff through workshops and resource materials.
Attend academic departmental team meetings as needed.
Perform other learning support duties as required by the Assistant Director of Academic Strategies Program.
Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Learning Disabilities, or other closely related fields. Further professional or graduate experience in special education and/or working with students with learning disabilities is preferred.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
