The Nightingale-Bamford School is accepting applications for its part-time collaborative pianist to work in our dynamic and innovative music and dance department. This position will begin in the September 2019 and will follow the school calendar. On average, this will be 20 hours per week with some additional hours for evening rehearsals, concerts, etc.
A complete list of rehearsals/classes will be available prior to the start of the school year. Nightingale-Bamford operates on an eight-day rotating class cycle. Therefore, class times do not fall on consistent days each week. As a result, applicants must have flexibility to be available Monday through Friday from 8:15-3:15 to meet the expectations of the position, though the applicant will not be needed every day during these hours. When not needed for rehearsals or classes, the applicant has flexibility to tailor his/her schedule in order to pursue other opportunities pending this does not conflict with the requirements of the position.
The collaborative pianist is compensated on an hourly basis commensurate with experience.
Bachelor degree required.
Professional experience as a piano accompanist is preferred.
Demonstrate technical proficiency and skill on the piano.
Must possess strong sight-reading skills, be able to play open score choral music, and follow conductor’s nuances and gestures.
Ability to improvise basic accompaniment or transpose to other keys as needed.
Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate and establish relationships with students, faculty, and administration.
Display a pleasant personality and a positive attitude toward working with students.
Genuine passion, excitement, and enthusiasm for creating music with students of all ages and abilities.
Punctual, detail-oriented, and flexible.
Able to take feedback.
Work closely with the director/teacher in any and all musical projects.
If interested, teach private piano lessons after school for additional compensation.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Accompany rehearsals for Middle School and Upper School choruses including leading sectionals as needed, playing voice parts during rehearsals, and occasionally recording practice tracks.
Improvise basic accompaniment for stories, songs, and games during weekly Lower School sing-alongs. This is an opportunity to be playful and creative with the students and teachers.
Improvise and/or provide accompaniment for rehearsals in Lower School and Middle School dance.
Accompany performances for all age groups throughout the year both during school hours and occasionally in the evening (dates will be provided at the beginning of the school year).
Consistent, punctual, and regular attendance at all rehearsals and classes is an essential function of this position.
