The school seeks an experienced Student Support Specialist who is involved in the community and dedicated to carrying out the mission of the school. The position necessitates a strong commitment to bridging learning support services for students with disabilities. This person will interpret documentation and establish accommodations; and provides information and consultation to faculty and staff regarding students with disabilities. This position is a staff, exempt position.
Job Details: Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Case management of students with documented disabilities including, creation and updating of individualized student Learning Profiles, working on direct interventions and skill development with students, annual review of accommodations plan
Work jointly with Athletic Trainer and School Nurse in case management for students with documented medical or physical conditions that affect mobility, learning or temporarily require academic accommodations.
Review and maintain confidentiality of evaluations, academic files, and standardized testing
Communicate with and provide guidance and professional development to teachers so they can best support students with learning differences
Prepare accommodations request for College Board, ACT and Postsecondary options
Collaborate with Testing Coordinator for school-based administration of ACT and College Board exams.
Support assistive technology for students with learning differences, when indicated
Member of Admission Review Committee relative to potential students who have diagnosed disabilities
Identify and support all students
Attend academic support meetings to advocate for struggling students, collaborate interventions and short-term modifications with academic advisors and teachers.
Refer to outside tutors and evaluators when determined appropriate
Provides short-term learning support for students needing study and organization strategies, time management, and test preparation
Collaborate with colleagues to develop division-wide programming to help students know themselves as learners and to utilize strategies for academic success.
Required Experience, Degree and Skills:
All applicants must have a degree in special education, education, or a related field field and at least three prior years of experience.
Experience with the College Board and ACT accommodations process
Knowledge of psychoeducational assessment, learning disabilities and ADHD, adolescent development and educational accommodation planning
