Kents Hill School is at a pivotal moment in its almost 200-year-old history. This position, with a start date of July 2019, is a key part of the student life team at Kents Hill and will play a dual role within the Health Center. This is an 11-month position and will provide care during daily Health Center hours as scheduled, as well as rotation of on-call time on evenings and weekends. This position will also participate in the Kents Hill on-duty rotation. As the Director of the Health Center, they will be responsible for oversight of all health services, including the development, maintenance, and revision of school health policies; management and performance of personnel including two school counselors and one school nurse; oversight of the health center budget; creation and oversight of a proactive health education program and plan; building of strong relationships with local providers; and strategic planning and delivery of all health-related services. Critical to this work is the ability to build relationships of trust built on respect, adherence to the highest ethical standards, professionalism, and effective communication with the school physician, counseling staff, athletic trainers, student advisors, faculty, and families.
As a School Nurse, they will support the physical, mental, emotional, and social health of a diverse community, including students, faculty, and staff. Responsibilities include working collaboratively using a team approach to support student health, prevent illness and disability, and achieve early detection and treatment of health-related issues. In addition, the position provides health assessments, communicates with parents and faculty, manages student health plans and the school’s online Magnus Health Records, and coordinates with key internal and external personnel as appropriate.
Candidates possessing the following are encouraged to apply:
A current license to practice as a professional, registered nurse or nurse practitioner in Maine
Five+ years of supervisory nursing experience working with adolescents, ideally in a boarding school environment
Comprehensive understanding of adolescent health care issues and a desire to work with students
Experience ensuring that a team is mission-aligned, following sound and safe principles, and delivering the highest standard of care and confidentiality
Excellent organizational/administrative abilities and effective writing and oral skills
Strong work ethic accompanied by a collaborative, team-first approach
