The Phelps School seeks an instructor of social studies for the 2019-20 school year. Depending upon the teacher’s expertise and interest, courses could include U.S. History, World Cultures, Civics & Economics, or other courses of particular interest to the instructor, as well as AP sections.
Teachers at Phelps serve as advisors to as many as five students and are fully involved in co-curricular programs as coaches, activity sponsors, weekend trip chaperones, and community service project supervisors. Some reside on campus in faculty housing and serve as dorm parents (supervisors). They are dynamic men and women dedicated to helping each boy become a better man – in and out of the classroom. They enjoy working with students in relatively small classes and engaging collaboratively in curriculum design and constant professional improvement. They strive to integrate technology into their teaching and to help improve students’ creativity and critical thinking skills.
Ideally, the teacher will serve on the residential life staff, with campus housing provided.
