The Hill School, a highly selective boarding school in Pottstown, PA known for its strong combination of liberal arts and STEM curricula, seeks a full-time Instructor of Computer Science for the 2019-20 academic year. As a member of the Mathematics Department, this teacher is responsible for the general direction of the Computer Science program. Classroom instruction, curriculum design, and the ability and desire to model courses around current trends in technology while still providing a solid fundamental base are essential. A desire to continually grow and develop the program within the bounds of the School’s mission is critical.
More specifically, the primary responsibilities for this position include (but are not limited to):
Teaching up to four sections of Computer Science with a possibility of 1-2 sections of Math and/or Emerging Technologies. The Hill School’s current course descriptions are listed below but all courses are not offered each year.
Introduction to Computer Programming
Computer Science Principles AP
Computer Science A AP
Data Structures and Algorithms Honors
Serving the School’s co-curricular program for two terms as either a coach or program leader;
Assisting the School’s residential program on weeknights and over weekends in some capacity.
Ideally, a candidate will possess at least 3 years of experience teaching programming at the secondary school level, an extensive programming background, and/or strong student teaching experience. Other skills and/or qualities necessary for this position are: effective verbal and written communication skills; a genuine willingness to work closely with students and colleagues; a high energy level; and, of course, a good and enduring sense of humor! A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or similar is required; a master’s degree is preferred. Start date for this position is August 12, 2019.
