Ransom Everglades School seeks applications for a full time, Upper School teaching position in the English Department starting in August 2019. The successful candidate will teach in the Department, contribute to departmental and faculty discussions, serve as an advisor, and participate in student activities or coaching, or otherwise be engaged in the life of the school. The upper school English curriculum begins with a world literature survey course, followed by an American literature survey course and a British literature survey course. As seniors, students select from range of elective courses in English. Throughout the English curriculum, students engage a variety of genres of literature from around the world, and develop their own voices in different formats of communication. Course assignments will depend on the educational background and experience of the successful candidate. Candidates with particular strong backgrounds in literature are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates should be prepared to contribute to the Department’s ongoing discussions about diversity, equity, and inclusion in the curriculum, the place of digital modes of communication, interdisciplinary learning and research, and be comfortable with the school’s emphasis on an inquiry-based, student-centered pedagogy. Applicants must have a Master’s degree in English or a related field and prior independent school teaching experience is preferred.
