Reporting to the Director of Nursing/Associate Medical Director, the Nurse Manager/Medication Manager will have excellent triage and medication management skills, as well as leadership capacity. The position requires working independently and as a member of the health care team, and also engaging productively with the wider school community. It also requires excellent organizational as well as clinical skills, and the ability to work well with students and families from across the United States and around the world. We are particularly interested in a nurse who has worked with patients of various backgrounds.
This is a full-time, exempt, school-based health center staff position with excellent benefits for an experienced nurse who enjoys working with teenagers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage nursing team: Engage in hiring, orientation, and review process; Establish and coordinate nursing schedule; Provide education and mentoring; Organize and provide professional development opportunities for staff; Establish competencies and benchmarks for nursing care.
Triage and provide nursing care to students: Offer basic first aid; Respond to emergencies; Administer vaccines; Document using Electronic Medical Records (EMR); Work with the health care team to identify and coordinate resources and referrals.
Oversee and implement medication management program. Organize and coordinate all aspects of medication administration including: Meet with students and families; Provide continuity of care with primary care providers and psychiatrists; Organize medication administration documents; Dispense medication and review medications with students; Review prescriptions; Convene weekly provider meetings to discuss student medication management.
Other related duties as assigned.
Graduation from accredited Diploma or Baccalaureate Nursing program (BSN or MSN).
Current nursing registration (or pending registration) from the State of Connecticut.
2 years minimum nursing experience, preferably in adolescent or pediatric nursing in a school-based health center.
Supervisory experience strongly preferred.
Medicat or similar Electronic Medical Records experience preferred.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Facility with more than one language is helpful but not required.
