In order to lead the transformation of our Center for Academic Support into a Center for Academic Excellence, we seek to hire a systems builder who will be responsible for:
championing the vision of linking specific structures of learning support to pedagogical conversations with the faculty through our Professional Development structure, which is overseen by the Dean of Faculty;
building new offerings such as a drop-in writing lab, peer tutoring network, and freshman study skills seminar; and
executing the current extra-fee tutoring model in a way that is financially responsible and serves all students with demonstrated need (in partnership with the Associate Director of Learning Support).
This position reports to the Assistant Head for Teaching and Learning and works closely with the Assistant Academic Dean, Dean of Students, Director of Enrollment, and Director of Counseling.
Build our current Center for Academic Support, targeting students needing extra tutoring, into a Center for Academic Excellence that will support all of our students in their metacognitive development
Oversee the Center for Academic Support and its dedicated staff of Learning Specialists and manage through the transition
Represent The Gunnery’s academic support structures through the admissions process, including meeting with families and helping to determine whether we can support specific learning profiles
Partner with parents in the work of student academic support by coordinating testing, communicating academic struggles, and assuring integrated academic support structures
Partner with the Dean of Faculty in leading pedagogical conversations with faculty and advisors
Partner with the Assistant Head for Teaching and Learning and Curriculum Committee to determine the appropriate accommodations to be met in classrooms at The Gunnery
This role requires ten months of full-time engagement with limited summer responsibilities.
Work with the Associate Director of Learning Support to ensure that learning profiles are created and communicated appropriately and that accommodations are met in the classroom and in specialized testing
Teach one section in a core department
Lead and staff new support programming, including on evenings and weekends
Participate in all Faculty meetings and Student Progress Meetings
Some availability over the summer is required to help Admissions with summer enrollment and to participate in student support processes (what we call “Flag Meetings”)
Advise, co-curriculars, dorm, etc.
