Sidwell Friends, a coeducational Quaker day school, seeks a part time Art Room Assistant for the 2019-20 school year. The Lower School program seeks to foster a love of learning and is built around rigorous intellectual exploration and joyful discovery. Risk-taking, collaboration, a positive community spirit, and strong communication skills are essential characteristics of the candidate.
Interested candidates should have an art (not necessarily an art education) background, love elementary aged students, have lots of experience with different art making media, be flexible and patient, be somewhat versed in technology and thrive in a collaborative environment.
Responsibilities for the work include preparation for projects and displays, including things like mixing paints, cutting paper, matting artwork, prepping clay and helping to maintain the organization and care of materials. In addition, the assistant will provide in-class support for students in PK-4th grades in their art creation. The assistant will take and maintain photos for the art class page and assist with installation of displays around the LS and assistance with large scale installation of bi annual spring LS Art show in all school Gallery.
